In order to increase the power semiconductor, Renesas restarted the factory that was closed 10 years ago!On April 11, Renesas announced that it has begun to operate in the Kofu factory located in Kofi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Renesas aims to improve the production capacity of power semiconductors to meet the growing demand of electric vehicles.
Kofu Factory was a wholly -owned subsidiary of Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which once operated 150 mm and 200mm wafer manufacturing line.
However, as Renesas implemented a large -scale structural reform in the early 2010s, the factory was closed in October 2014. In May 2022, Renesas decided to re -open the factory and build it into a 300mm wafer factory to support the growing power semiconductor demand. Renesas made an investment of 90 billion yen in 2022. At present, it has built major infrastructure such as drainage equipment, clean rooms and supply infrastructure. It is said that the planned semiconductor manufacturing equipment has been delivered 70%. The production line starts trial operation from April 11. Prototype production will start from July to September 2024. It is planned to start large -scale IGBT and other products from 2025 to double the current production capacity of Renesas's power semiconductor.
Kofu Factory

The Kofu plant covers an area of 94,000 square meters, with about 100 employees. The maximum area of the clean room is 18,000 square meters, of which 6,000 square meters have been put into operation. You can also use the remaining 12,000 square meters or build new buildings at the place.
